USC and FLORIDA most talent, how come voters like the big 12 teams that have no defenses.?

  • USC lost on the road, Florida lost at home. Everyone knows the teams they both lost to aren't better. My question is if both these teams have the most 5 star talents, Impressive BIG game victories, if Florida beats Alabama then why doesn't USC play Florida for the championship. I don't want to hear a comment saying either of these teams suck. If you do then you are express little thought or I think you might be retarded or just haters, and bias. This is for logical thinking people only. Oh yeah just a fun fact: USC hasn't lost a game by more than 7 points in 6 YEARS. Nobody in college football can say this. Don't say the pac 10 is weak, they are down this year, but not the last 6 years they haven't been down. Oh yeah why is that florida wants to play USC and USC wants to play Florida? Is it because these teams view each other as a tough game, and a game against the big 12 would be another victory due to the lack of the defense in that conference this year? Let's face it with all the 60pt games in that conference is not just explosive offenses, its bad defenses. If i remember the 2005 National Championship it was 55-19. None of those teams could put up 50 against usc or florida.

oh yeah and I go to Eastern Washington University and I watched Eastern compete with texas tech in lubbick. wtf? we suck we are division 1-AA and it was 34-24 in the third quarter how is this team ranked so damn high and so highly praised. Oklahoma State only won 39-13 vs Washington State. So obviously their offense isn't that powerful because USC was beating WSU 42-0 at halftime, and their third string players were still kicking their asses to finish the game at 68-0.

  • IF they had the most talent they would have had the most players in the NFL right now. They don't.

For the most players since teh inception of the NFL that would be Notre Dame, Michigan, or The Ohio State. 2005 and 2005 ran teh same way. Sorry you were looking in the wrong conference for teh best players.

  • over all big 12 has more of the best

  • I bet there are going to be a lot of USC haters bashing this. Its because everyone likes the Big 12 cause OU and Texas have a huge following. People hate longevity cause Florida and USC win their bowl games and OU chokes and if they go to the title game I expect more of a beat down then Florida gave Ohio State a few years back. If Oklahoma State can hold down that offense until they got gassed then imagine what a really good defense could do? Texas got beat by Tech they are not at all good they have a pathetic defense and if you shut down the pass for below 300 yards they will lose big. I think A&M's 9 point effort was the best Texas could do whereas they probably could never shut out any team and I mean any team. Give them a real defense and they will get stomped. If USC had some offense like in years past this year they would be bar none #2. Enjoy your title game OU or Texas as it is for the right to play Florida and get destroyed. Whichever team in Texas or OU who gets slighted you will be happy to hear that Oregon State lost so you won't have to see a real defense in the Fiesta bowl.

  • Yeah its a real shame the BCS doesnt play the two BEST teams against each other, but the two most ACCOMPLISHED teams.

Its not about putting the best game on that you can, its not about proving who's the best team in the country, its just a meritocracy that rewards the team thats the most statistically invariant, whichever team sucks the least, not which plays the best. It punishes mistakes severely, one loss and you're essentially done, but gives almost no reward for excellence above and beyond merely getting the W. In fact, like with USC this year, blowing out all your opponents may actually HURT you because it makes your opposition seem soft.

It's like the Army in wartime, if you avoid getting killed long enough, you get promoted. If you're really good at not screwing up, you'll make general - but that doesnt mean you're good at leading or strategy, just at not getting killed. Thats why we get boring teams like Ohio St in the title game, they just dodge bullets all season with spread-option offenses and cupcake out-of-conference scheduling, while dynamic teams like USC and Florida may occasionally take a bullet in the thigh, but they're still the best.

I say the thing that they should do if they dont make the BCS championship game, USC and Florida, is just do an end-around past the BCS entirely, and just schedule a game of their own January 8th, play it out, and let the sportswriters and football fans decide which game really proved who was the best, officially or not. Maybe taking some of the validity away from the sham of the BCS would be enough to convince them to go to a playoff.

  • If Florida wins next week against the number 1 ranked Alabama team they will jump to the top spot. So they control their own fate if they win out. As for USC you said do not mention that the PAC 10 is weak this year but that is a big reason why they are being left out the national championship game.

Jeff Sagarin computer poll is just one of the six polls used to compute the BCS rankings. If you look at Sagarin's computer poll you will see a section that list each teams strength of schedule and a section that ranks each conference. When you look at Oklahoma and Texas they have both played tougher schedules than USC. When you look a the conference breakdown the Big 12 ranks second and the PAC 10 is sixth.

  • just a guess but maybe the reason big 12 defenses look so terrible is that the offenses are out of this world. just aguess but we will find out in the NC game

  • BCS standings don't care about who is more talented. To be honest I have no idea what they care about, who they are trying to make happy, or why people defend the system so much? Is everyone really that afraid of having to play USC? Everyone wants to be like Ohio St. and make it to the big game on a technicality and then get blown out providing evidence of why they don't belong there. If Obama gets his way and puts in a playoff USC is going to end up winning 90% of the national championships. Best players, best coaches, best team.

  • Best question I have seen this year. Too bad this will go to waste because most of the people on Yahoo Answers are screamish Big-12/SEC fan boys/ fan girls. They are too biased to see the truth. And all of the facts and good points you listed will probably be ignored. They will just give you that "USC sucks!!" bullcrap and then run away like a sissy.

I'm glad there are knowledgeable football fans like you though.

    Props.

  • Probably because Big 12 college football fans need there egos stroked too. USC and Florida have very strong programs each year. They are in BCS talk every year...For TV ratings, and money making, they need to talk about other schools too.

I agree with a previous comment, Florida and USC should have their own game at the end of the season. I think that game would bring more viewers than any Big 12 game match-up scheme they could come up with...
