Turn off the power. Take the cover plate off. Remove the recepticle and tighten the screws. If the wire is aluminum, then you will need oxide inhibiting compound to coat the wires. This will prevent the wires from backing out. This is for homes built especially during the 70's. When in doubt as to the quality of the outlets, Head down to a home improvement store and buy some new ones. Take a picture of the face to verify the right ones. 15 amps have 2 straight lines with ground, while 20 amps have 1 straight and 1 straight with a cross piece and ground. They should range between $.50 to $2.00. A GFI will be about $10. Black goes to the brass screw, White to the silver screw. You need to turn off the power to that circuit and call an electrician. Is it a standard type receptacle or a GFCI? Either way this is a fire and safety hazard. What you are hearing is electricity arcing across a loose connection. As I'm sure you may know, arcing and sparks and such are NOT a good thing. PLEASE turn off that circuit. wut? the wires are loose and its fixing to burn out, might be a good idea to have it looked at,and til you do don't use it.No.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
