Mozilla 1.3 Beta released

  • In their web they say:

This release contains improvements to junk-mail classification, image auto-sizing and much more

In my opinion Mozilla is getting better release after release.

  • I've been playing for a while with Quick Launch and I've decided I won't use it.
It certainly launches Mozilla faster, but it takes longer when you close it. It looks like if Mozilla completely closed and then re-loaded Quick Launch.
It also uses 2% of my system resources, not much, but I prefer to use the resouces when I need them.

  • I also use Mozilla on Windows 98 SE and haven't have major problems.
I don't know about Quick Launch because I try to keep as short as possible the list of programs that load at startup and I don't find the time that takes Mozilla to load a real problem (though it's clearly longer than IE). I'll give it a try and I'll post here what I see.

  • Hi Ferri,

That's exactly what happens with my moz 1.2b.

About to install moz1.3b. Do you use the mail facility as well?
and if so, do you let OP filter your attachments?
I ask because of this long thread re moz 1.1 and attachments

    http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4921

  • From release notes:

    * Windows 95, 98 and ME users are experiencing regular application hangs. This doesn't appear to impact NT, 2K or XP. (bug 192294)

    I'll wait!

  • OK. Thanks, Ferri.

  • Thanks for letting us know.

I am still using Mozilla 1.2b because I like the pop-up manager (found under tools). Do you know if this feature is present in Moz 1.3b?

  • OK. Thanks. I'll give it a try and let you know about Quick Launch.
On 1.2b I find it unreliable!

  • I installed yesterday's (14 feb) nightly, promptly deleted it and re-installed that of the 13th.

The 14 feb nightly kept giving a popup error like this

    Document contains no data

when the page/web site did show data in IE.

Have you seen this error? I use win98SE.

About the attachment. I forwarded a mail to me as an attachment (.eml) and then retrieved it with ns mail. Curiously the attachment was opened in the browser, NOT as a regular email message in messenger?

  • Hi Minoka.
Sorry for the delay. I've been a couple of days out.
I don't use Mozilla's mail client because for some reason I can't see the mail I get from my bank. It comes as an attachement that Mozilla doesn't read. I haven't tried to fix it nor looked around if somebody has the same problem. I suppose I should work on it one of these days...
I agree that this new version is slightly faster and it has useful new tools.

jancarlssonswe: So far I haven't had major problems with the 1.3b version I was using, but just updated to the last nightly build, just in case. Thank you.

  • Hello Minoka
I haven't seen this error with today's build (15 Feb) and didn't use yesterday's since I wasn't at home, as I said before.
I can't tell you more about the attachements. The ones I can't see have another extension, but with this build I've been unable to work with the mail client (and I don't remember the extension; it's not EML). Tomorrow I'll download the next build and I'll post here what I see.
I'll also check if I'm having a known bug in Mozilla mail; otherwise I'll send it to bugzilla.

I usually download a new nightly from each day. Now I use 2003021108.

During the last two months the only problem has been the spellchecking. It stopped to work Jan. 16, but after the new version of spellchecking was introduced 2003-01-27 everything works fine. Mozilla is my default browser.

I have to add. The "Quick Launch" of Mozilla has never worked for me.

  • Yes, the Pop-up Manager under Tools is back in Mozilla. With WIN98SE I have not experienced any hangs in recent nightlies of Mozilla 1.3b.

  • Thanks for letting me know. Which nightly are you using?

  • Hello Ferri,

    I installed Moz yesterday's nightly.

To avoid possible problems with win98SE, I renamed my chrome dir to old and deleted the XUL.mfl, both from my moz profile directory, then installed moz 1.3b. I found those tips in the mozilla forum.
So far I find it somewhat faster than moz 1.2b, more options too!

    Thanks for your previous posts.

  • Concerning Mozilla problems in Win9x/ME Dan Kies wrote Wed 12th Feb in Mozilla Forum
    http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5819
-“Take heart. The developers (especially Chang and Fisher) have been testing and refining the patch for the last couple of days, and Fisher checked the patch into the trunk this afternoon.

The Win9x/ME friendly version of Moz1.3b should be ready for download beginning with the 20030213 nightlies.

Let's help Mozilla.org get the word out about this improved beta version for its Win9x/ME users and testers.”-
