i thought everything transferred but my mom said that only your credits transfers, your grades do not, so your gpa resets basically...is this true?I think it depends on the school you are transferring to.There are two types of GPA, Institutional and Collegiate Cumulative. Grades you earn at any previous school are not used to calculate your institutional GPA at your present school. But, those grades do remain as part of your collegiate cumulative GPA.
When you transfer or apply for grad school, transcripts from all schools attended are required. This is where your cumulative GPA comes into play.
Also, there are some schools that do indeed transfer in grades as well as credit. Most often, they do not.gpa change pending on how the schools calculate gpa.
I had a 3.5 out of uhcl and 3.1 transferring into uh central.
the latter dropped classes from my community college while the other accepted some c grade classes.
your gpa will only reset back to nothing if u are going to a start a new degree plan so different that it doesn't accept any of your prior course work.When I transferred, my credits came but not the GPA - it started over. Friends who have transferred had the same experience, so it's probably universal.Depends on school, but I, like other posters on here, have experienced that only the credits transfer and sometimes not even those (the new school might not have a similar class or they don't accept the curriculum as being equivalent to their class). You'll have to check at each school to verify their policy on the matter. The reason is likely because each school's grading/gpa system is not necessarily the same (for example some schools go A=4 B=3 and so on, others have + and - grades with different gpa values, others have a gpa equation based on numerical grade, etc...) It's not very straightforward to translate these in between systems, and most schools probably decide not to try so they don't have to deal with the ramification of changing someone's gpa.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
