my husband and I are finally getting stationed together after 2 long years of S*it and were going to germany, what extra pay will we get and will we both get to bring a carYou will get COLA which is cost of living, you will of course get a house either on post or off depending on availabilityble. You wibe ableble to bring a car more likely two. Also you get a little more since ur married. Good Luckyou will each get COLA. car is probably going to be limited to ONE total. Yes, you can each ship a car. Basically, each of you will have a full moving allowance, including a car shipment. The JFTR has all of your allowances in it. (The POC shipping allowance is found at the U5400 paragraphs). In some cases the soldiers got stationed 50 miles apart which was within Army regs, so the same post isn't really guaranteed unless your oders say so.
You prob are BOTH eligible to ship a vehicle, but maintenance costs for a US car are very high. One friend had a 1 yr old Chevy Silverado shipped. Germans don't work on trucks very well at all.
Insurance costs isanother concern. Very high for full coverage as dictated by your bank if its financed. But there are alternatives.
When I went to Germany in 85, I put my 84 Ford into storage at a family members house, unregistered, and paid $25 every 6 months for ins against theft or fire. I bought a used German spec car from a pCS'ing soldier for $1500 that laste dmy whole tour. No payments, liability ins., Germans are familiar with the repair requirements.
